Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino (y Museo Bolivariano de Arte Contemporáneo)

La Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino is a hacienda built in the seventeenth century, was the place where the Liberator Simon Bolivar spent his last days, and in which he died on December 17, 1830. It is considered a sanctuary of the homeland as well as a 17th century hacienda dedicated to the production of rum, honey, and panela. Inside this main house there are internal gardens that give a colonial style to the hacienda. The old buildings of the Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino are painted in yellow ocher. The idea of creating a Museum of Contemporary Art in La Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino came from the artist Armando Villegas, and was warmly welcomed by the other artists that made up the Bolivarian Union. It is the cultural heritage of these six nations, achieving through the arts the union and brotherhood of Simon Bolivar. This collection was born with the sole purpose of gathering a sample of the artistic production of the Bolivarian countries (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Panama and Venezuela) that paid tribute to the liberator Simón Bolívar in La Quinta. The collection gathers paintings, sculptures, assemblages, watercolors, collage and other drawings, some 190 works by outstanding artists from the Bolivarian countries. 💡Curiosities Around the Main House we find centennial trees, silent witnesses of a glorious history: a Samán, a Ceiba and two tamarinds. These last ones are the most mentioned by the historical tradition because in the middle of them they placed the hammock of the Liberator when he arrived at the hacienda; these species of trees, together with the varied flora and fauna present in the hacienda, constitute the living collection of the Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino Botanical Garden. In the central part of the garden there is a pedestrian sculpture of the Liberator in Carrara marble.
